Mr. Asadula from UNHCR visited PRT Gardez and brief on the closure of the Jalozai Camp in Pakistan. The Jalozai camp will be closing in March 2008. The returnees will be processed at the UNHCR, Gardez Encashment Center were they will receive $100 per person. They expect 9,000 people to come at the time of the camp closure. Below the expected breakdown: - 20%, Own land with homes. - 50%, Own land but, the home was not in living conditions/destroyed. - 30%, Have no land/home to go. They expect the first and second group to go to their lands. The second group will need assistance with tents and to begin building/fixing their homes. The third group will received lands in Rabat from the local government. UNHCR is briefing the local government on this closure for their action. No direct assistance was requested to coalition forces from UNHCR. The local government will be the lead agency in this and should be the one requesting any assistance needed.
