At 0719z TF 2Fury reports that 22 Taliban fighters have surrendered to GIRoA forces at the Ghazni''s Governors Compound. Gov. Faisan requested medical and humanitarian assistance (HA) for the ex-fighters. Coalition Forces conducted a small-scale medcap exercise for these men at the Governors compound. CFs tactical human-intelligence team also debriefed the fighters. The group totaled twenty-one men under a reputed Hizb-e-Islami commander and Faisan ally. CF forces question whether all of these men were indeed fighters. From talking to several of them we determined they were from the area east of 4 corners, from Sultan Bagh up to Chardival Sini area. All seemed to be under the command of Abdul Manan, who is directly under Faizullah in Deh Yak. 22 in all, ranging from what appeared to be 50 years old down to 15 years old. Their motivation seemed to be common amongst most of them. They want to work in the government now and do not like the killing of jingle truck drivers and civilians done by other Taliban in the AO. Manan was unsure what he and his men would do next, but said that he wanted to do something with the government. If government jobs were unavailable, he said that some of his men would just go back to their villages. He expressed concerns about his security, claiming that people in the government who are also in the Taliban might try to do something to him, but provided few details. CF along with the local government will discuss with Faisan his plans for the small band of fighters reintegrated today. The Governor may seek to re-arm and use them as a personal security detail, which would be a violation of the PTS program. NFTR. Event closed at 1200z.
