On 05 August 2007, one (1) unknown IED Firing Device was turned into CEXC Kabul by ISAF Counter IED (C-IED). ISAF C-IED had acquired the device through a source who was attempting to obtain payment from C-IED for access to a store of approximately 22 additional (similar) firing devices as well as a cache of rockets. CEXC-Kabul was unable to obtain additional information to provide any additional information at the time of report submission. ITEMS RECOVERED: One (1x) possible firing device measuring 5.5cm (L) x 4.2cm (W) x 1.4cm (D). The device consists of a small cardboard box surrounded by masking tape filled with an apparent injection molded type plastic (teal-green in color), this is shielding the internal electronic components. The device has two (2x) visible red LED lights embedded in the plastic. The plastic fill has three (3x) distinct sets of wiring emanating from it: The 1st set of wires (1 x red/1 x black insulation), each approximately 26.5cm in length with a 9V battery connector at their terminus. The wires have a piece of white masking tape attached with the number 2 written on it in red marker. One of the 9V battery terminals is occluded by some of the plastic fill. The 2nd set of wires with red and white insulation, approximately 9.0cm in length, exiting the device from the corner adjacent to the possible power input wiring. The 3rd wire output, approximately 20.5cm in length, having white insulation with a green stripe which exits the device adjacent to the LED lights. CEXC REPORT: CEXC_AFG_628_07
